Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald Final Trailer Reaction: 8 Ups & 2 Downs
4. The Romantic Tease
There was outrage not so long ago when it turned out that we apparently weren't going to get to see a realisation of the romantic relationship between Grindelwald and Dumbledore and Warner Bros and Jk Rowling were rather unnecessarily accused of suppressing LGBTQ representation needlessly.
To be honest, some of the criticism was due, but Rowling - to her credit - confirmed that the franchise would be getting there eventually. After all, it's an important part of the story (and clearly it's part of why Dumbledore is reluctant to face his enemy directly at first) and leaving it out would have been wrong.
Still, not having ANY of that in this film would have been equally wrong, so it's good to see the trailer hint at their romance in that little flash of Dumbledore with the Mirror Of Erised and the flashback of the two together. And as Rowling confirmed in the trailer's wake, we will see SOME of their relationship, setting up more of it later...
Also, props to Warner Bros for bringing back the same actor who played the young Grindelwald in the Harry Potter flashback.
