1. The Hilariously Bad Ending
No spoilers here of course, but the end of the movie is...not good. Not good at all.
The climactic, inevitable "final" battle against Grindelwald is a soulless, CGI-fuelled mess where stakes are low and interest even lower, before the film slams into a brick wall with an absurd closing scene sure to leave fans at least as infuriated as they might be intrigued.
If the intent was to get fans hyped for part three, it's hard to imagine how Rowling really felt like this was good enough. An unwieldy mix of garish schlock action, on-the-nose writing and the wrong kind of fan service, the final 10 minutes of the film are somehow even more deflating than the previous 120.
So, The Crimes of Grindelwald is an unmistakable mess of a movie, but like the Star Wars prequels, it's also not without its merits. Here's what Rowling and director David Yates actually got right...
