Fantastic Four: 10 Villains Who Would Have Been Better Than Dr Doom
9. The Frightful Four
So many of the Fantastic Four's villains work solo, and there's something unsatisfying about watching a fight scene where the good guys outnumber the bad. With four protagonists sharing one enemy between them, it can feel like there's not enough bad guy to go around. The danger here, of course, is that some of the heroes will end up stuck fighting generic minions while the others do the actual world-saving. The original Fearsome Four was comprised of minor Marvel comics villains including the Wizard and Spiderman's recurring enemy Sandman. Although the Wizard is the only character to appear in every incarnation of the team, the roster has been highly changeable. As a general rule, though, each member of the team is designed to mirror and neutralise the personalities and abilities of the Fantastic Four. And who doesn't love evil counterparts? Having an evil version of the Fantastic Four as enemies gives us a better chance of a one-on-one fight scene that will show off what the main characters are capable of doing.
With a (nearly) useless degree in English literature and a personal trainer qualification he's never used, Freddie spends his times writing things that he hopes will somehow pay the rent. He's also a former professional singer, and plays the saxophone and ukulele. He's not really used to talking about himself in the third person, and would like to stop now, thanks.
