Furious 7 Review: 15 Reasons It's The Best In The Series

6. The Series Has Basically Become A Superhero Franchise...

The fourth film, Fast and Furious, is where the series truly began to get ridiculous, what with that opening tanker flip stunt, and by the time Fast Five came out, the series had completely divorced itself from reality. After throwing a safe around Rio in that movie, Fast and Furious 6 again upped the ante with flip cars and the longest runway in existence, while Furious 7 again takes the action to ridiculous heights, quite literally as Brian and Dom crash their stolen Ferrari through three skyscrapers in Abu Dhabi. Then there's the finale, which sees a Predator drone chasing the gang while a helicopter gunship also attempts to blow them to pieces, and of course, all of the principal characters manage to survive completely unscathed. One memorable moment early in the movie sees Dom and Ramsey surviving an insane car crash which would kill any mere mortal, pretty much confirming that these characters have now become superheroes, and have a preternatural tendency to survive even the most absurd circumstances. It's no bad thing, though, because the thrill in these movies never really revolves around the mortal peril of the characters, but the sheer mayhem on display.
