Gambit: 4 Reasons It Could Be Awesome (And 4 Why It Could Suck)
2. Gambit Will Struggle Solo
Whilst he's had a few solo comics down the years, Gambit is a character who always works best as part of the larger team of X-Men. Whilst he does have a history away from the team the character usually works best when riffing off of more uptight characters, and Gambit's past, which we're likely to see in 2016, works best when it works to inform his present actions and attitudes. It's likely that the Gambit movie will focus on his time with the Thieves Guild and their rivalry with the Assassins Guild; in fact, with female lead Lea Seydoux playing Belladonna Boudreaux, the head of the Assassins, it looks like we're set for a tale of star-crossed lovers. More casual fans of the character will surely miss his most famous relationship though; the love story between him and the X-Man Rogue. Sadly Bryan Singer's films have already paired Rogue with Iceman, so it looks like Gambit will be relying heavily on Tatum's star power to fill in the gaps left by his more traditionally recognisable supporting cast.
