Ghostbusters 3: 7 Big News Revelations About 2020's Upcoming Sequel

3. Ernie Hudson Is Back Too

While Dan Aykroyd's comments on Dan Rather's show seems to suggest that he's been involved all the way through pre-production (he did write the originals so it makes sense), it wasn't until more recently that Ernie Hudson was announced as being back for the threequel.

When he was initially asked, he seemed unclear of whether he'd have a part to play, but more recently he confirmed he'd been in talks about the film's progress with the Reitmans:

“We really just had a general conversation. Every now and then I'll hear from Ivan Reitman or Jason, so when I heard that Jason was doing the movie I gave him a call. They just said that it would be more in the tradition of the original Ghostbusters, whatever that may mean... Obviously it would be a great job if I was included, but they didn't exclude the possibility that it could happen either. So, so far nothing's come across my desk, but I've always let them and the studio know that I'm open to appearing!”

He also went on to talk about how he felt it was right to make the film despite his respect for Paul Fieg's reboot:

“A lot of franchises see the studios really pushing them, but with Ghostbusters it feels like the fans just found it and kept it alive themselves. I'm just happy to see something new being done with the property, and that it's Jason at the helm. I remember Jason, as a little kid, on the set of the second movie, so if anyone was going to do this, I'm glad that it's him. The fact that Ivan's producing with him is also really nice.”

Since then, a report on Deadline on Hudson guest starring in upcoming episodes of Season 7 of Arrow carried confirmation that he was indeed returning: "Known for his portrayal of Winston Zeddemore in the Ghostbusters franchise, Hudson will reprise the role in Ghostbusters 3."

Previously, Hudson had also said that "everybody is in" when he was initially asked about the film, but it'll be interesting to see whether we get confirmation of Sigourney Weaver, Rick Moranis and Annie Potts' involvement any time soon. Fingers crossed though.
