Ghostbusters Reboot: 29 Easter Eggs, References & In-Jokes

Just as Dana's apartment block ends up being the focal point for the supernatural climax in Ghostbusters (1984) a very similar looking building is chosen as the 2016 stand in.

The Mercado Hotel clearly wasn't chosen for its geographical position: its art deco look, including the tiered upper levels and penthouse tower are almost identical to the apartment building in the first movie.

And as a further tribute, the building is shot from below with a swirling sky and lightning crashing around its peak.

That's definitely no accident.
