Ghostbusters: What Did You Think?

Good, important or a hollow, unfunny dud? You decide.

Ghostbusters Rating

The worst crime there is in film appreciation - whether you're a fan, a critic, a Youtuber, a fellow film-maker or whatever - is to proclaim a film bad without seeing it. You can make observations that you might think it won't be good, but if you then don't go and see it, you're the worst kind of blow-hard.

You then look particularly silly when it turns out that the film is widely appreciated. Because it makes your stand against the film look like the politicised act of garbage it is. And no amount of accusations over paid reviews, reactions with an agenda or any other conspiracy theory will change that.

So yeah, incredibly, it seems it is possible to actually like the new Ghostbusters without being a card carrying SJW or monstrous feminazi. You know, despite everything all those angry little boys said before it even came out.

It currently sits with a fresh rating of 73% on RottenTomatoes, has picked up a number of 4 star reviews from reputable sites and is tracking to do pretty well at the box office. And some of the positive reviews have even managed not to simply judge the film on its IMPORTANCE over its entertainment value.

Our film editor Alex Leadbeater appreciated it - you can read his review here. His sentiments have been reflected elsewhere on the site with features dedicated to how good the film is. But this is a subjective world, and the film is not for everyone. Personally, I found the characters were badly underused, the joke success few and far between and the effects particularly reminiscent of The Haunted Mansion with Eddie Murphy.

But we're not here to discuss my opinion - for once. What did you think of Paul Feig's reboot? Was it a worthy successor to the original two? Should there be more films in the franchise? Share your thoughts about it below in the comments thread.
