2. The Sound Is Stunning
King Of The Monsters sits alongside Christopher Nolan's incredible Dunkirk in terms of incredible aural experiences for an audience. Technically, it's all so well crafted that it's impossible to see anything but lots of technical awards when awards season comes around next year.
The sound is very much split into two sides here. First, you get ambient sounds and sound effects, which are incredibly well crafted (just as they were in Godzilla 2014). It's one of those movies where you can really feel the presence of a sound designer and a foley team and it's the kind of experience that IMAX was made to showcase. Impressively, the film was actually remastered for IMAX rather than shot in it and is now the best advert for IMAX's DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology.
And then there's the soundtrack, which gives each of the kaiju a theme - or at least Mothra, Rodan, Godzilla and Ghidorah and they're really, really great. Godzilla's theme was put together by System Of A Down's Serj Tankian and it's the perfect expression of him as a character - bombastic, intense, charming all at once. It's just all beautifully well-crafted and right up there with the visuals. And speaking of which...
