Godzilla Vs. Kong: 20 WTF Moments
11. Mechagodzilla Is Powered By Ghidorah's Skull
Because introducing Mechagodzilla as the movie's true antagonist wasn't nutty enough, it's also revealed that the robotic doppelganger of Godzilla is powered by one of the severed heads of King Ghidora, the primary villain from Godzilla: King of the Monsters.
Ghidora's neural networks are able to act as a sort-of supercomputer to power Mechagodzilla, which follows on quite neatly from King of the Monsters' post-credits scene where eco-terrorist Alan Jonah (Charles Dance) is seen buying the head in Mexico.
Even this isn't insane enough, though, because Mechagodzilla of course has to be piloted by someone, and this occurs by having a human make a telepathic link with the machine, not entirely dissimilar to Pacific Rim's Jaegers.
Near the end of the movie this goes spectacularly awry, inevitably, when Ghidorah's consciousness wakes up, possesses Mechagodzilla, and embarks on its own rampage. Seriously, that is a thing that happens in this movie.
