A lot of the night's best moments came from the acceptance speeches, and a great one was that of Tracee Ellis Ross, who won for Best Performance by an Actress in a TV Series - Musical or Comedy.

Ross became the first black actress to win the award since Debbie Allen way back in 1983, and the win comes 44 years after her mother Diane picked up a Globe (and, to complete the circle, Ellis Ross herself is 44-years-old).

In a poignant and timely speech, Ross then went on to dedicate her award to women and people of colour:

Other powerhouse speeches came from Viola Davis - who got to give not one but two, and paid touching tribute to her late father -, Hugh Laurie, who made a cracking Trump/HFPA joke, and Atlanta star Donald Glover, who talked about how important entertainment was for him growing up.
