Golden Globes 2020: 10 Ups & 6 Downs
6. Ellen DeGeneres' Fantastic Carol Burnett Award Speech
The honorary Carol Burnett Award was introduced at last year's Golden Globes, and the first recipient not to be Burnett herself was Ellen Degeneres, being honoured for her historic contributions to the TV medium over the last 25 years.
Ellen was introduced by Kate McKinnon, who in a touching speech praised Degeneres for helping normalise homosexuality in pop-culture, and making her feel more comfortable coming out in her formative years.
Ellen's speech itself was a winning mix of hilarious and heartfelt, thanking her imaginary husband "Mark" and her similarly fictional children, while praising the power of TV to make people feel better about their lives and, in turn, do good out in the world.
