Golden Globes 2021: The Snubs And Surprises
6. Snub: Da 5 Bloods - Everywhere
What is most likely going to be considered a fault with the release date, Spike Lee's reflective drama set in Vietnam somehow managed to be completely snubbed in every single category. With Delroy Lindo being considered a given for Best Actor, it was also understood to be a strong contender in Best Drama, Best Writing, Best Director and a potential Best Supporting Actor nomination for Chadwick Boseman.
Dropping on Netflix all the way back in June, Da 5 Bloods was hoping to carry the momentum of its generally favourable reviews and good will straight to the Oscars but the Globes may have potentially knocked it out of the running entirely. Performing okay at the guild awards, Da 5 Bloods needed the Golden Globes to push it back into the memories of other voters but it may now be too late.
Despite the film being just above average overall, brought down by a weaker second half, it is sad to see Delory Lindo miss out on a nomination here as he is unquestionably outstanding.
