9. The Extensive Work That Has Gone In To Marketing

Marvel ComicsMarvel ComicsAs well as the usual trailers, posters/billboards and basic television commercials that you associate with the imminent release of any movie, Marvel have produced a number of specifically placed Guardians of the Galaxy television spots, a number of prelude comics that are canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to introduce new readers to the characters, and a number of new comic book titles in the primary Marvel canon (a self-titled Rocket Raccoon comic, for example) in order to raise awareness of the characters to a wider audience. The amount of work and care that must have gone in to such a widespread campaign is immense and it is, therefore, extremely obvious that Marvel know they're putting a relatively unknown property out to a cinematic audience for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As such, they'll certainly be hoping that the hard work pays off.
