Guardians Of The Galaxy: 20 Easter Eggs & References You Must See
8. Sakaraan, Not Badoon
The Badoon are a pretty big deal in the Guardians Of The Galaxy mythos. They were instrumental in bringing together the first band of space heroes to carry the Guardians title, since the nasty alien race wiped out the rest of each of their civilisations and were intent on destroying the entire galaxy. They're also pretty important in the comic book origin story of Star-Lord, since they're the extraterrestrial douches who beam down and tear his house apart, looking for his absent father and killing his mother before young Peter Quill obliterates them all with a gun his father had left for him. For an entire alien race that's so integral to the Guardians Of The Galaxy's story, they're surprisingly absent from the big screen adaptation. That's because the rights to the Badoon lie with 20th Century Fox, since they first appeared in a Silver Surfer comic, and they still retain control of that property along with the Fantastic Four. It's a similar situation that saw Marvel unable to use the iconic alien Skrulls for the climax of the Avengers movies, forcing them to draft in the lesser-known Chitauri in their place. In the case of the Guardians Of The Galaxy they do, well, pretty much the exact same thing. Out go the Badoon, remaining safely in Rupert Murdoch's pocket, and instead we get the Sakaraan who, rather interestingly, hail from a far-off world that plays a big part in the Planet Hulk storyline...
