Guardians Of The Galaxy: 20 Easter Eggs & References You Must See
3. The Mighty Thanos
We're ten films deep into the Marvel Cinematic Universe at this point and, finally, we've been properly introduced to the big bad who will be causing trouble for both the Guardians Of The Galaxy and the Avengers at some point. Thanos appeared for a second time after a brief post-credits cameo in the latter film and was the principal force for driving the action here, manipulating The Collector and Ronan The Accuser to collect the Infinity Stones for him (more of which soon). He did this all behind the scenes, choosing to sit in a big floating chair rather than get his hands dirty - a lazy tic he shares with the DC Comics villain Darkseid, from whom he's pretty much totally ripped off. So we finally met the guy, but we don't really know all that much about him. He's clearly pretty powerful to have all these people running around doing stuff for him, as well as having the sort of bad reputation that comes up whenever people mention his name. Plus he has a floating space chair and appears to live on an asteroid - and without his lungs exploding - like a sci-fi Bond villain. But what are his motivations? Why is he going to continue to be a big deal in the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Well for the second question, because they cast Josh Brolin as his voice, which would be weird for a one-off appearance. As for the first two questions, well, because he's a big deal in the Marvel comic books universe, where he is principally motivated by the fact that he totally has the hots for Death. So he wants to either conquer the universe and destroy it, or just skip straight to the destruction, because when your sweetie is the embodiment of death you impress her with mass genocide.
