2. Glenn Close Joins the Cast
Last week, multiple media outlets confirmed Glenn Close is in final negotiations to join the cast of
Guardians of the Galaxy. Her talent alone is enough to give fans cause to rejoice, but it is the quirky perception of Close that makes her casting seem so oddly perfect. She should feel right at home sharing the screen with Peter Quill's ragtag team of misfits. Hiring talented actors who never seemed destined for superhero cinema has worked out pretty well in the past. Michael Caine proved to be a definitive Alfred Pennyworth in
The Dark Knight Trilogy; Gary Oldman flipped his villainous type-casting on its head as a spot-on iteration of James Gordon in that same series. It is great to see Marvel picking up revered talent like Close for
GOTG and Robert Redford in
Captain America: The Winter Soldier for Phase Two. It is the rumored role for Close, however, that provides the greatest intrigue.
