Guardians Of The Galaxy Holiday Special: 10 Songs It Must Include

3. Do They Know It's Christmas - Band Aid

The 1984 song "Do They Know It's Christmas?" was written by Bob Geldof and Midge Ure in response to a 1983 TV report about the famine in Ethiopia. The track was recorded on a single day in 1984 featuring the first Band-Aid supergroup. Status Quo, Duran Duran, The Boomtown Rats, Wham! and David Bowie all featured on the track. It reached the number one spot in the UK Singles Chart and became the fastest-selling single in UK chart history.

Since the song features a large amount of some of the 1970s and 1980s biggest pop acts, it's only natural that a young Peter Quill would have fallen in love with this mega tune. A number of the artists featured on "Do They Know It's Christmas?" have had their solo songs featured in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise. David Bowie had his 1972 song Moonage Daydream featured on the soundtrack to the first Guardians film.

The track has been re-recorded several times since its original release with new acts relevant to the time of the recording replacing the original group. Other versions have included the British pop band, Busted, Robbie Williams, Emeli Sandé, and One Direction.
