Halloween: Ranking The Movies From Worst To Best

3. Halloween (2007, Rob Zombie)

Rob Zombie Halloween Rob Zombie's grimy spin on the Halloween mythology transplants the tale from middle of the road American suburbia to the much poorer end of the spectrum, with the lower class slum areas of Illinois. The depiction of Michael is also a total departure to the original source material, with Michael far more human for much of the first act - an average child growing up in a poor home with a family that loves him but also finds him incredibly inconvenient. His mum is a stripper, his step dad an abusive alcoholic. His sister is still a slut, but above all else he has a perfect little sister that he completely adores. Can you guess who that might be? After finally committing his first kill, Myers is transported to a psychiatric hospital where he eventually becomes an introverted mute who spends his days making masks and growing his hair. After years of counselling sessions with the smug Dr. Sam Loomis, Myers eventually escapes (probably to avoid spending any more time with McDowell) and begins a violent rampage as he makes his way home to Haddonfield to find his only surviving family member. This is a perfect re-imagining of the classic story and set Rob Zombie up as the rightful heir to the franchise. Sadly, his follow up just didn't make enough sense and killed any hopes of further exploring this particular version of the Halloween saga.
