Happy Death Day Review: 5 Ups & 5 Downs

5. Jessica Rothe's Charming Performance

Happy Death Day Jessica Rothe
Universal

There's one aspect of this film that absolutely, unequivocally just works more than anything: Jessica Rothe's immensely charming performance.

Rothe does a fantastic job portraying Tree, the initially douchey sorority woman caught in this horrendous time loop, and even when the script doesn't support her well enough, she fully commits herself to the part regardless.

Her charismatic, likeable performance is a big reason why the film works at all, and it seems probable that she's going to have a bright future off of its success, whether that's as a scream queen in the horror genre or in the wider industry as a whole. Bravo.
