Harry Potter: 10 Most Hated Characters Who Aren’t Villains

Sybil Trelawney crops up at the start of The Prisoner of Azkaban when Harry, Ron, and Hermione start Divination. Though her spooky manner comes across as rather mysterious, it soon transpires she’s a total fraud.

Dumbledore admits she’s only ever made two genuine predictions in her entire life, and as such, her otherworldly aura is simply an act. Plenty of students fall for this trick, however. Only Hermione seems to realise that Professor Trelawney is an appalling teacher with no talent.

And to make matters worse, she predicts the death of a new student every year purely for the sake of drama. It’s an attention-seeking move which is both disrespectful and damaging to the respective student’s wellbeing.

Given Professor Trelawney made the prophecy about Harry and Voldemort, Dumbledore had no choice but to keep her at Hogwarts. Had this not been the case, however, he never would have employed her to teach Divination.
