Harry Potter: 7 Times Harry Was A Complete Idiot
5. When He Went Into Hogsmeade Despite Sirius Black Being On The Loose – The Prisoner Of Azkaban
Whilst staying at the Leaky Cauldron, Harry learns that Sirius Black escaped from Azkaban and intends to murder him. This turns out to be nonsense in the end, but Harry had no way of knowing Sirius was innocent until the closing stages of his third year.
As such, his decision to sneak into Hogsmeade is incredibly stupid. He isn’t even deterred by the Daily Prophet article which reveals Sirius has recently been sighted near Hogsmeade. Instead, he decides to go strolling into the local village for the sake of a few sweeties from Honeydukes and some magic tricks from Zonko's Joke Shop.
In Harry’s defence, he did wear his Invisibility Cloak during his second trip into Hogsmeade. But given how many students are manoeuvring through the village at once, the Cloak could easily have been dislodged. Indeed, in J.K. Rowling’s original story, the Cloak temporarily slips during a scuffle with Malfoy, Crabbe, and Goyle.
And given his parents sacrificed themselves so that he could live, gambling their sacrifice is a poor way to repay them.
