Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows: 12 HUGE Changes To The Battle Of Hogwarts

Deathly Hallows Part 1 does a little to reintroduce the importance of the House Elves to the films, as Kreacher and Dobby both play pivotal roles in guiding Harry along his path to destroy the horcruxes.

What the earlier films leave out, however, is the existence of the Hogwarts Elves that work in the kitchens below the Great Hall - a service that Dobby joins himself after being freed by Harry at the end of The Chamber of Secrets. Much of Hermione's subplot from The Goblet of Fire onwards concerns her attempt at liberating the Hogwarts Elves and their resistance to such movements.

Kreacher's role is lessened in the films also, as his emotional story of the struggles of Regulus Black and his journey to recover the Horcrux locket is mostly left out.

The Battle of Hogwarts in the book sees the Hogwarts Elves emerging from the kitchens prepared to fight Death Eaters with pots and pans, and the herd is led by a Kreacher now determined to assist his master Harry in his final fight after previously being cold towards all wizarding plights.

As the films leave out the involvement of House Elves from after Chamber of Secrets up to Deathly Hallows Part 1, this scene does not exist in Deathly Hallows Part 2, and the Hogwarts Elves are never mentioned onscreen.

Chances are I’m watching a movie or replaying Mass Effect rather than doing anything productive.
