Harry Potter: The Worst Thing Every Order Of The Phoenix Member Did
6. Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody - Excessive Force
The paranoid Scotsman was considered to be one of the greatest Aurors of all time. Incredibly adept at battling powerful wizards, Moody became a critical enforcer in the Order, imprisoning several dark wizards in Azkaban at the cost of his leg and eye.
Moody was known to be completely paranoid, preparing all of his own food and drink while being incredibly private about his personal details. This had earned him a reputation of being a bit crazy, which only exacerbated things when Moody was captured and impersonated by Death Eater Barty Crouch, Jr. Crouch's impersonation allowed him to move freely through Hogwarts, and enact a plan to serve up Harry to Voldemort, ensuring his resurrection.
However, well before then, Moody had fought bravely during the Wizarding Wars when Voldemort was first at the height of his powers. It is said that, at some point, the Ministry of Magic relaxed their regulations and allowed Aurors the use of the three Unforgivable Curses. Despite his reluctance initially, Moody openly admits he did use them against the dark forces.
It's ultimately a sad truth that often times, for the sake of security, the side of good must be willing to take drastic measures. While Moody filled filled many of the cells in Azkaban, it's likely he was forced to kill his fair share as well.
