11. Mark Ruffalo's Holographic Cameo - Now You See Me: Now You Don't
When Now You See Me: Now You Don't entered production, many were disappointed that original star Mark Ruffalo was conspicuously absent from the threequel's cast.
Ultimately scheduling conflicts caused his character, Horsemen leader Dylan Shrike, to be captured and held in a Russian prison off-screen - a convenient means to explain away Ruffalo's absence while leaving the door open for his return, basically.
Yet to the surprise of many, Ruffalo does actually make a cameo appearance at the very end of the movie.
The Horsemen receive a package which, when opened, projects a hologram of Shrike, revealing that he faked his incarceration before formally inducting newbies Charlie (Justice Smith), Bosco (Dominic Sessa), and June (Ariana Greenblatt) into the group.
It's unfortunately painfully clear that Ruffalo's inclusion was last-minute, as director Ruben Fleischer himself confirmed. The hologram looks naff, while Ruffalo looks and sounds like he has no idea what's going on.
It's basically a glorified Zoom call cameo, and hardly worth all the effort made to lock Ruffalo down for a day of shooting.
If they couldn't get him in the same room as the rest of the ensemble cast for even a few hours, why even bother?
