12. Mary Angela Laura Crane - Return to Silent Hill
Granted, you could say that Return to Silent Hill is a 106-minute moment that everyone hated, but its most fan-alienating moment sees filmmaker Christophe Gans pointlessly deviate from the hallowed video game source material.
Protagonist James Sunderland (Jeremy Irvine) visits the grave of his late girlfriend Mary (Hannah Emily Anderson), where it's revealed that her full name is Mary Angela Laura Crane.
Basically, the characters of Angela and Laura - the former also played by Anderson, the latter by Evie Templeton - are revealed to be figments of James' tortured subconscious alongside Maria, who was also an imaginary figure in the games.
Counter to the source material, where these three characters were entirely distinct, they've been conflated into an entirely imaginary whole, in turn wiping out all the agency that Angela and Laura had as flesh-and-blood people in the games.
Quite why Gans felt the need to make such a drastic, fanbase-enraging change to the source is anyone's guess, but that infamous shot of the grave was met with plenty of fury and perplexed laughter.
