Kathryn Bigelow's well-crafted thriller A House of Dynamite follows the U.S. government as it races to intercept a nuclear missile fired at Chicago from an unkown nation.

The first act is centered around White House Situation Room officer Olivia Walker (Rebecca Ferguson), but before the missile makes possible impact, we're pulled away to see the scenario unfold from two other perspectives.

The third and final perspective is that of the President of the United States (Idris Elba), who is left deciding whether to launch a retaliatory attack or not, all while the missile closes in on Chicago.

And while audiences understandably assume this final viewpoint will also show the follow-through, Bigelow again rips us away at the end, refusing to reveal whether the missile hit Chicago or what the President decided.

This non-ending caused quite the storm of ire on social media, and though Bigelow and writer Noah Oppenheim have stated that the frustration is very much the point, to deny viewers a satisfying ending and start a conversation, that did little to quell the great many left fuming by the inconclusive climax.
