Hobbs & Shaw Trailer Reaction: 6 Ups & 3 Downs

4. David Leitch's Sharp Direction

Hobbs & Shaw is being directed by David Leitch, who has previously helmed John Wick, Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2.

Needless to say, he's a note-perfect choice to direct a film this chaotic, with Deadpool 2 in particular showing off his skill at executing cartoonish, CGI-slathered set-pieces.

Though the effects themselves do look a bit iffy on occasion, everything in the trailer suggests that Leitch is firing on all cylinders here, and if the film succeeds as much as it seems likely to, it could be the one to truly put him on the map as an in-demand blockbuster filmmaker.

While these films could easily just be directed by journeyman hacks, hiring a considered director like Leitch shows an above-the-odds care for the end product, and that's mightily encouraging.
