4. The Invitation
The Invitation follows Will (Logan Marshall-Green), a man who accepts an invitation to a dinner party hosted by his ex-wife, and if you don't find that setup inherently strange enough, it sure gets a lot weirder from there.
Just give yourself over to this one, because it's nothing if not a film primed to keep you guessing until the very end.
You might think you have it down as one thing, but filmmaker Karyn Kusama mines the ambiguity of the dinner party setup for every eerie drop while gradually ramping up to a rager of a climax.
Logan Marshall-Green leads a superb ensemble cast in a film that commits fully to the ultimately unsavoury, disturbing nature of its eventual premise, all the way through to a jaw-dropping final scene that leaves so much to think about.
Just make sure you don't accidentally watch 2022's decidedly less-good gothic horror film of the same name by accident.
