The J-horror boom of the early 2000s wouldn't be what it is without Cure - a mesmerising slow-burn psychological horror from the incredible Kiyoshi Kurosawa.
Koji Yakusho stars as a detective who investigates a series of murders committed by people claiming to have no memory of carrying them out, and that's just the seed for a thickly atmospheric, dread-soaked outing that's so much more than the "Se7en but Japanese" you might be expecting.
One of the strangest and yet most intoxicating horror films of the 1990s or really any decade, Cure is a film that casts quite the spell, drawing viewers into a materially bizarre situation the cause of which proves most unexpected.
Kurosawa's first-rate direction combines with Yakusho's impeccable central performance to ensure Cure is an uncommonly dramatic horror film that'll leave you with plenty to think about once the curtain goes up.
