20 Horror Movies You Should Watch Totally BLIND

16. The Menu

The Menu
Sony Pictures Releasing

Unlike Companion, the marketing for The Menu was refreshingly restrained in not revealing the precise particulars of its throughline, and in fact even dared to basically steer us all in the entirely wrong direction.

Know only that the film stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Nicholas Hoult as a couple who travel to a remote island for a fine dining experience, only for the head chef (Ralph Fiennes) to have quite the surprise in store for his guests.

You can speculate on that all you like, but the thrill of figuring out precisely what's going on is what makes that first viewing so damn fun.

It doesn't hurt that filmmaker Mark Mylod clearly relishes milking the increasingly unhinged premise for every darkly funny drop, while blessed with a game ensemble cast who are evidently having an absolute blast.

Just when you thought the satirical well had been drained dry, along comes The Menu to offer up a ferocious takedown of - well, that would be telling.
