House Of Gucci Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs
4. Jared Leto's RIDICULOUS Performance Steals The Show
From the moment the movie's first trailer dropped, much had been made of Jared Leto's performance in the film as Gucci heir Paolo Gucci.
Between the radical makeup effects required to transform his appearance and his seemingly cartoonish attempt at an Italian accent, there was a lot of pre-release skepticism about his potential to deliver.
But believe it or not, Leto turns in more pound-for-pound, minute-for-minute entertainment value than anyone else in the movie, even Gaga.
Though Leto's role is absolutely a supporting one, he illuminates the screen every time he's on it with his wide-eyed, high-pitched dynamism.
He's hamming it up for the rafters, for sure, but it's a choice that dovetails quite brilliantly into the sillier, even trashier, aspects of the screenplay.
Aided by phenomenal, frankly Oscar-worthy makeup effects, Leto disappears into the role shockingly well, and without his larger-than-life presence that overcooked runtime sure would pass a lot slower.
