Child Gamora being referenced a second time, when Thanos has utilised the power of the infinity gauntlet, shows she’s on his mind a lot more than we give him credit for. That image of a little girl looking up to her father is one that could haunt him and fill him with regret, setting out to right the wrongs of his devastating click. We know the gauntlet is still usable even if it it doesn’t look very pretty any more as Thanos manages to teleport away with it - meaning the time stone might just be salvageable.

It also explains why Strange gives the stone to Thanos rather than letting Tony die when he always claimed he would put its protection first. He’s seen over 14 million futures, and there’s only one possible timeline where the Avengers win. The time stone has been protected, and his knowledge has been imparted as ‘it was the only way.’ It’s likely the winning future is the one that won’t make sense to the other members just yet.

Rocket and his new best friend Thor have stakes in bringing back their families, and it’s on Gamora’s lifeless body that these stakes can be realised. Avengers 4 looks set to be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4 before we’ve even had the announcement yet - and with such beautiful planets, head-bopping soundtracks, and emotional stakes on the line, it’s no wonder they’re taking on the central roles as we wave goodbye to the age of Robert Downey Jr. They’re the next step in the franchise, and define a new era of movies that will follow in their stylistic footsteps.

With Thor: Ragnarok taking influence from the success of the Guardians and even more colour-popping palettes and joke-laden dialogue cropping up throughout Marvel films, it’s clear to see the direction they’re looking in. The Guardians have dominated the latest Avengers movie and it’s one of the best ones yet - testament to their superior formula. Now let’s all cross our fingers that they’re on their way back, or it’s over before it’s even begun. Motherfu-
