How Marvel Should Bring The X-Men Into The MCU
9. Fox's X-Men Universe Ends With A Mutant Extinction Event
Though it's entirely possible that Fox's existing X-Men universe may just quietly go away in a few years, it'd be much cooler if Disney capitalised on their new acquisition by giving the core X-Men franchise a concrete ending.
With this year's X-Men: Dark Phoenix set to establish Jean Grey's (Sophie Turner) destructive potential, it'd make a lot of sense for Disney to commission one final X-Men movie in this continuity, in which Jean Grey's powers result in a cataclysmic extinction event, effectively bringing this universe to an end.
While it'd make for a mighty depressing superhero movie and isn't strictly necessary, it would be an emphatic way to draw a line between the old Fox X-Men and the new MCU version.
Plus, considering how X-Men movies are reliably churned out every two-ish years, the film could be in cinemas by 2020, giving Disney a delineated blank slate and ensuring general audiences aren't left too confused about continuity.
