Hugh Jackman: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
4. Leopold Kate & Leopold (2001)
Thank god X-Men came along because, honestly, without it Hugh Jackman's career would've been over before it began. Instead of making the leap from the stage to the screen in quite such a spectacular fashion as he did, he might very well have gone the way of the Dougray Scotts of the world if he'd been remembered for...whatever this was. This is what Kate & Leopold was: a romantic comedy where Jackman starred as Prince Leopold George Duncan Albert Mountbatten, Third Duke of Albany, who finds himself bored of life in the 17th century and somehow arranges it so he gets sent through time and finds himself in present-day New York. Where he promptly falls in love with Meg Ryan's cynical and ambitious market researcher, because of course he does. Even for the often credibility-straining genre of romantic comedies, this is stretching it a bit. Jackman tries his best, bless him, but there was absolutely no charm or personality to be found in this absolute nadir of modern studio filmmaking.
