5. Peeta Almost Dies, Then Katniss Does, But Noone Particularly Interesting Bites The Dust

Peeta is a pretty feeble tribute, despite having survived the first Games, and is almost immediately killed by the poisonous fog when he falls over and is partly engulfed by it - forcing Finnick to carry him after Mags sacrifices herself, and then is actually killed by a force field (though he is revived by Finnick, with apparently no internal injuries from his massive electric shock.) He shakes off both events remarkably well, and doesn't really try to die anymore, but Katniss herself is almost killed by Heavensbee when he spins the central island to disoreintate the tributes when they work out the clock riddle, and she falls in the water. And then she's almost caught and killed by a pair of Career Tributes, before Johanna covers her in blood to convince them she's already dead, and runs away to cause a diversion. The death count is naturally high, but none of the high-billed actors bite the dust, despite Jeffrey Wright being both stabbed and electrocuted. Amanda Plummer does die, and old lady Mags valiantly walks to her doom, but both are obvious and don't really leave too much emotional impact, and the rest of the dead are either cannon fodder grunts or nasty tributes who get what's coming to them (and prove surprisingly easy to kill.)
