Idris Elba: 8 Villains He Could Play In Star Trek 3

2. Kahless The Unforgettable

If Trek 3 is going to have Klingons then the thought to go all out with them must have crossed the writing teams mind at some point, and no character would be a bigger symbol of intent than Kahless. Viewed by almost all in his race as "the greatest warrior of them all", Kahless was a mythical and historical figure who united the Klingon race, crushed all their enemies, introduced them to honour, and founded the entire Empire. He was their Obama, or their Steve Jobs, depending on your perspective. By far the bravest, noblest, fearsome, honourable, and symbolic member of the species ever to be referenced in Trek lore, Kahless would be a simply mega adversary for the rebooted Enterprise crew. If they're going up against the Klingons, they might as well go up against the Klingon. How they'll go about introducing a figure who will have been dead for the better part of 1500 years is open to interpretation, but The Next Generation's episode Rightful Heir did spawn the idea of a Kahless clone that was created to help inspire the Empire to its former glories. It didn't exactly work out that way, but it gives Pegg and co precedent for doing something similar. If Elba's to be utilised effectively though he'll need a role that affords him as many scenes where he can grandstand with wonderful dialogue as he can hand red-shirted Ensigns their arses back to them. He's an actor who is always at his best when he as to balance the inspirational with the confrontational, and there's arguably no character in the whole Star Trek universe that exemplifies that better than Kahless. Well, maybe except Ben Sisko.
