Inferior STAR WARS Complete Blu-ray Boxset Coming Fall 2011

Billionaire George Lucas has announced thatBlu-ray's for all six of his Star Wars movies will be released in time for Christmas 2011 - though obviously, as you might have guessed, the set will only include the 2004, heavily tinkered, digital versions of the original trilogy. If I think it would make a difference I would clone my own stormtrooper army to picket outside all HMV's, Walmart's etc around the world to inform unacknowledged consumers that they are buying their kids an inferior, commercial minded greed-merchant product, and strictly not the vision of a hungry young visionary and gifted storyteller as once existed. A long time ago, in a world far far away. The priceless quote from the NY Times story is the inevitable pre-emptive defence from Lucas as to why it's the 2004 versions we are being fed and not the original transfers. He says releasing the original untampered theatrical releases would be "kind of an oxymoron because the quality of the original is not very good,". Hands up who thinks Lucas might find a way (i.e. more cash to make it so) around the time of 2013/14, when sales of this first wave have hit the necessary figure? And oh - thanks Mr. Lucas for making me buy at least three shitty bore-fests (though all the movies have nice moments) to enjoy Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back in 1080p. Thanks for that. The new release will include "documentaries, vintage behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, retrospectives and never-before-seen footage from the Lucasfilm archives." Not nearly enough to win my money. Here's a look at one of the new deleted scenes. It shows the originally shot entrance of Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) in Return of the Jedi. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UdJ0E7HbTKc Or as Mark Hamill put it today; * This is my original entrance into the film Return of the Jedi. * Darth Vader walks down a hall, and into a chamber, meditating, reaching out to Luke telepathically. * Luke is shown in robes, MAKING HIS Lightsaber. * He turns it on, glowing green, nods, and turns it off. * Wow. Very cool. * It was a bit ominous, and was meant to make fans wonder until that Green lightsaber turned on, whether he€™d join his father on the darkside or not. €œ The footage was shown at a Star Wars Celebration V event which Jon Stewart moderated and was presented his own exclusive action figure by Lucas ;
