Invader Zim: Enter The Florpus Review - 8 Ups & 1 Down
6. The Humor Is As Snappy As Ever
Vasquez not only brought the overall madness to Enter the Florpus, but also the trademark snappy humor and dialogue that made the original television series such a joy to watch.
Those who came up on Invader Zim more than likely have fond memories of just how manic its style of humor was. Zim's robot companion and occasional housepet GIR was sort of the poster child for this particular approach to comedy. And while GIR certainly has some great moments of this in Into the Florpus, many of the other characters also get their time to shine.
Be it the banter between Dib and Gaz or the less friendly hurling of threats and insults between Dib and Zim, there are so many moments that make you want to pause, rewind and hear them again. This is aided by the fact that the voice actors haven't lost a single step over the years.
The physical comedia is equally as curt. Take, for instance, the opening scuffle between Zim and Dib, which sees the latter defeated in fairly humiliating fashion. Or perhaps the best action moment in the film, in which Gaz gives an incredible amount of fanfare to the ham, only to nonchalantly chuck it at Zim's head. (See? There's the ham again.)
The conceptual insanity of Invader Zim and the actual execution of its jokes are two parts to a bigger whole. And both parts were present and accounted for in this long-awated film adaptation.
