Next James Bond Movie Titled CARTE BLANCHE?
A compelling case has been made to suggest Bond 23 might be an adaptation of Jeffrey Deaver's recently published novel.
Carte Blanche, really? It's always been a mystery to me why the James Bond producers consistently have so much trouble in coming up with a title for their movies when they don't have an Ian Fleming work to adapt. License to Kill was a good effort and made sense, easily the best non-Fleming book adapted title. Goldeneye was cool too... stealing the name of Fleming's estate and using the title to actually form a cracking plot. But Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day. Yikes. Things have even gotten so bad lately they had to use the long-thought of impossible Fleming title of Quantum of Solace. So truly, where do they go from there? Although not confirmed, Bleeding Cool have put together something of a compelling case to suggest Carte Blanche is the title and I'm inclined to believe it, not least because it isn't one the Bond producers have come up with themselves (surprise, surprise). Author and Bond aficionado Jeffrey Deaver's June published Bond novel Carte Blanche is where the title originates and when you look at the plot synopsis for the 37th book in the canon closely, maybe they are stealing more than just the name;
starts his assignment on the outskirts of Novi Sad in Serbia where an Irish sapper-turned-enforcer named Niall Dunne is planning to derail a train carrying three hundred kilograms of methyl isocyanate, dumping it into the Danube. Bond is able to prevent the catastrophe by derailing the train himself at a much safer place along the line. He is unable to detain Dunne, who kills Bonds Serbian contacts in the course of his escape.Very interestingly considering we heard last week that there is an epic train sequence planned. More fuel to the fire of the title being Carte Blanche is that a Serbian media outlet recently revealed their native cellist Jelena Mihailovic will write the opening score for the movie after blowing director Sam Mendes away with a performance in Cannes and gave her a chance to write the opening score for the new James Bond film, entitled Carte Blanche. A bad translation in meaning she has "carte blanche" to write what she wants or is it now clear she slipped the super secret title for the movie that she shouldn't have? All circumstantial evidence or is there enough here to get a conviction on Carte Blanche as the James Bond title? If so... it does sound very European which is interesting after the very Euro-feel to Quantum of Solace but doesn't sound very Bond-ish. And there's no way an artist can get that title into the chorus of a theme song! Whatever the title, expectations are high for this next instalment and it would seem that Bond 23 is shaping up to be an exciting prospect. With an A-list director on board (Sam Mendes), star Daniel Craig well established in the lead role, Javier Bardem as the villain with Ralph Fiennes in a major role and a welcome return for classic characters (Naomie Harris as Miss Moneypenny leading to the hope that Q might be back) it has the potential to be something special.
