5. Giacinta 'Jinx' Johnson - Halle Berry - Die Another Day
Jinx pretty much encapsulates exactly what a Bond girl should be, smart, strong and sexy, she is more than a match for Bond and does her fair share of the dirty work during Die Another Day. She is an NSA agent who quickly joins Bond on his mission to spy on Zao and deduce his connection to Gustav Graves, managing to infiltrate the command centre that Graves has set up in Iceland, during which she shows she is no stranger to guns and close quarters combat, although she is soon captured before being rescued by Bond. Despite that setback, Jinx more than proves her deadly skills during a fight with the MI6 traitor Miranda Frost aboard Graves' rapidly falling cargo plane, first escaping as Frost holds her at knifepoint before retaliating with a throwing knife, which embeds itself into a copy of The Art of War by Sun Tzu, and finally engaging her in a full-on sword fight, even fighting back from a sword wound to the stomach, all whilst displaying her various acrobatic skills. Jinx eventually gains the upper hand on Frost by grabbing the book with the knife embedded into it and sticking it straight into Frost's chest, before kicking the knife deeper into her heart to finish her off. This moment is effortlessly cool and is even the same kill method that Jean Claude Van Damme used in last year's The Expendables 2 to rid the team of Liam Hemsworth. If it's good enough for a martial arts master, it's good enough for us. Interestingly Jinx was actually speculated to have her own spin-off film, with MGM reportedly keen to set up a franchise around her character as what they called a 'winter olympics' alternative to James Bond, something which had also been rumoured with Michelle Yeoh's character from Tomorrow Never Dies, Wai Lin. Unfortunately MGM eventually pulled the plug on these films, citing that they were keen to continue with the next James Bond film instead. In case you needed further convincing of Jinx's status in this list, which I'm sure you don't, an ITV news poll once saw her voted as the fourth toughest girl on screen of all time, a list only topped by Uma Thurman as The Bride in Kill Bill, now that's proof if ever there was any.
