Jason Bourne: 10 Reasons It's A Huge Disappointment

4. One Plot Twist Too Many

The consensus seems to be that Vincent Cassel is one of the best things about Jason Bourne, playing arguably the best of the series' antagonistic "assets", having an understandable motive for killing Bourne after his exposure of Operation Blackbriar caused the asset to be compromised and tortured.

While this was a great twist on the usual formula and introduced a ton of moral ambiguity, Greengrass and Rouse sadly didn't stop there and piled on one revelation too many, as it's revealed later in the film that the asset was also responsible for the assassination of Bourne's father.

This is just far too coincidental and totally unnecessary: why not just have a random, faceless assassin kill Bourne's dad? It makes things a lot more morally questionable and interesting, whereas this reveal just sucks the complexity out of the situation and is silly beyond words.
