Jason Bourne: 10 Reasons It's A Huge Disappointment

5. The App Subplot Feels Tacked On

The movie's big subplot revolves around Aaron Kalloor's (Riz Ahmed) social media company Deep Dream, which is being secretly funded by the CIA in order to receive intelligence collected by the service.

In theory, it's a perfectly timely way to engage with modern, post-Snowden concerns about privacy, but it ultimately feels rather under-developed and cliched, as many prior thrillers have already dealt with the subject in similar fashion.

All this really does is pad out the movie, and considering that Bourne himself doesn't ever really directly interact with this plot, it feels weirdly disconnected from the whole except to bring everyone together for the third act in Las Vegas.

Nice try, but it just wasn't fleshed out enough to feel as incendiary as they clearly hoped.
