Jennifer Aniston: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
1. Justine Last - The Good Girl
Easily Aniston's best and most challenging performance, here she plays Justine Last, a married woman who feels ready to settle down and start a family, but her husband Phil (John C. Reilly) is much more pre-occupied with getting high and lazing about.
Eventually, Justine starts a torrid affair with a young man she meets named Holden (Jake Gyllenhaal), but soon realises that she's made a huge mistake and Holden is, in fact, a dangerous thief.
This dark comedy is the role that truly shows us what Aniston is capable of outside of her usual comfort zone. The movie smartly doesn't opt for a happy, sickly sweet ending, and instead stays true to its relatively bleak view of people - or, at least, this character - in that she ends up pregnant by Holden, and tells Phil that the baby is his, while continuing to work her retail job.
The role also earned Aniston one of the best distinctions of her career - an Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best Female Lead.
