John Malkovich joins RED, officially the best cast comic adaptation of 2010!

Joins Willis, Freeman, Mirren in the espionage thriller & confirms his Vulture offer for Spidey 4!

Forget Thor - the award for the best cast comic book adaptation of 2010 goes to Summit Entertainment's adaptation of the Wildstorm comic Red, which has just seen John Malkovich added to the never-ending list of high profile actors, toplined by Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Malkovich replaces John C. Reilly who left the movie last month. Malkovich gets to replay his Burn After Reading gig of portraying a comedic retired CIA agent, this time not writing his memoirs but paranoid beyond belief that he might be assassinated. Red begins shooting this week, with a Oct. 22nd 2010 release date set in stone. It's a bit off track but whilst I'm here and instead of writing another Spider-Man 4post, the Italian website Bad Taste e-mailed me this morning with a translated version of this story - which basically is Malkovich confirming he has agreed to star in the comic book movie but is awaiting a final script, but of course that said screenplay could wipe his character out! Red is based on the slightly obscure 2003 Warren Ellis and Cully Hamner comic that has been adapted for the screen by brothers Eric and Joe Hoebe, the writers behind Whiteout and the upcoming Battleship. Robert Schwentke, the competent director of Flightplan and The Time Traveler's Wife is behind the camera. The impressive cast in picture form... Genre favouriteBruce Willisstars as black-ops agent who comes out of retirement to work and must deal with the next generation of high-tech assassins who attempt to kill him. Morgan Freeman and Helen Mirren in as yet specified roles. Brian Cox looks like he is playing the bad guy - a former Cold War spy. John Malkovich as an ex-CIA agent who is "erratic and paranoid that everyone is out to kill him and joins Willis in is quest to find out who wants them dead".Mary Louise Parker as the love interest to Bruce Willis' character. Karl Urban plays a character named Cooper. Julian McMahon, who really needs to please a lot of comic book fans because of his really awful Dr. Doom performances, will play a Vice President with a dark side who is at the center of a shadow conspiracy. Richard Dreyfuss plays a wealthy man who builds a fortune out of lucrative government contracts. Ernest Borgnine who will turn 93 years old during filming and won an Academy Award some 55 YEARS AGO, will play the keeper of the CIA€™s darkest records.
