Sharon Washington's role is a rather thankless one as she plays the therapist at the forefront of Gotham's failure of Arthur. She's not an unsympathetic figure, but she's symptomatic of a broken machine, under-funded and unable to care for the people who need it most.

As such, their sessions - as Arthur says - devolve into her asking the same thing over and over and him genuinely feeling worse than he did before he started. It's a stark revelation, but it's something that genuinely does happen for people struggling with mental health issues and it's something that we've not seen explored nearly enough in films and TV shows.

She's one of the only characters to express any sort of concern for Arthur, but in the end, she's forced to give up on him, as the trailers revealed.
