Jumanji: Welcome To The Jungle Review - 7 Ups & 4 Downs

5. It Doesn't Rely On The Original's Legacy

When a new Jumanji movie was first announced, there was lot of fear that it would tarnish the legacy of the smash hit original, a sentiment amplified by the fact that Robin Williams' death is still an incredibly tender subject for a lot of his fans.

Well, it's a relief to report that Welcome to the Jungle expresses very little desire to rest lazily on the legacy of the original film, as bar one fleeting nod to Alan Parrish's time spent on the island, the new Jumanji is almost totally standalone aside from its name and the core premise.

There aren't any overdone tips of the hat to the 1995 movie, nor anything here that tramples on the original's continuity. Williams' fans can rest easy that there aren't any awkward, Rogue One-esque digital recreations of the late actor, and that the film was so tasteful and restrained in this regard is certainly laudable.
