There are certainly going to be some viewers who will be turned off by the film's surprising lack of cynicism or sarcasm. It's an almost jarringly earnest film at times, with a more traditional sense of humour rooted in character and scenario rather than overt pop-culture nods or mean-spirited mockery.

Though this does lead to a few missteps with the aforementioned emotional elements, for the most part the film's sincere tone totally works, largely because the action-adventure aspect is so blatantly indebted to the likes of Indiana Jones and other classic adventure fare.

It knows exactly what it is for the majority, serving up two hours of glossy action-packed cheese, with game actors doing their best to entertain you, and more often than not, it totally works.
