One of the standout scenes from both the film and book is when the T-Rex bursts from its enclosure and causes havoc in the storm. The tense and thrilling scene in which it terrorises the characters in their cruisers is amazing, but there is one thing missing from the cinematic version...

In the book, the T-Rex does not work alone. Accompanying the large, terrifying adult is a juvenile Tyrannosaur, smaller but just as deadly. It is young and still learning a lot about the world, but when one of Hammond's men jumps out of the cruiser and makes a run for it, the creature snatches his arm off and kills him in gruesome fashion. I guess that's what he gets for running...

While a baby T-Rex does appear in the film's sequel, Crichton uses it as a key part of the original Jurassic Park story. Not only is it another dangerous animal for the characters to keep an eye out for, with its own fearsome set of teeth and menacing roar, but the little Rex highlights the issue of the animal's unauthorised breeding in a really exciting way.

The baby animal brings the repercussions of the dinosaur's breeding to life, making it a living, breathing and dangerous problem to contend with.
