Kiefer Sutherland: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked
4. Buster McHenry - Renegades
Renegades is odd. Really odd. As a half-baked sort of action thriller, it features a very young Kiefer Sutherland doing his very best to carry an awful movie and failing to succeed in the task. The most curious thing about Renegades, though, is Sutherland's odd little mustache, which has to be one of the most unintentionally funny things ever. Research denotes that Sutherland was just 23-years-old in this movie, and despite sounding like a teenager in the film, he's caught awkwardly between trying to be Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon and not that. A true relic of its time, Renegades sees Sutherland's cop character, the unfortunately named Buster McHenry, trying to reclaim an Indian spear when a robbery goes wrong and he's caught having to clean up the mess. None of the movie makes sense, so you can't really blame the actor for looking unsure as to whether he's in a comedy or a serious action movie for the entirety of his performance. He also spends an annoying amount of time screaming his way through the events of the film. But maybe it's worth watching just for the bizarre mustache.
